What is a synergistic blend?
When certain essential oils are blended together, they work in synergy to enhance the effects each oil has on the body. When certain types of oils are blended together they create a stronger or different effect than when just one oil is used alone.
"It is not uncommon for the effect of two chemicals on an organism to be greater than the effect of each chemical individually, or the sum of the individual effects. The presence of one chemical enhances the effects of the second. This is called a synergistic effect or synergy, and the chemicals are sometimes described as showing synergism."
Why This Blend for Winter?
Our winter warming body and bath oil "Ice Fog" contains winter warming herbs and essential oils. Chinese Meridians that are associated with winter are the Kidneys (yin) and the Urinary Bladder (yang). There are many ways essential oils can assist in the balancing these organs in the winter. One may experience cold extremities, a cold internal core, and lower joint soreness (Ice). In TCM theory a kidney deficiency may create blurred vision, poor memory, inability to think clearly, lack of decision-making capabilities and a sense of weakness in the spine (fog) Warming essential oils, massaged on the body or put in hot bath water (add mineral/sea salt for diuretic effect) can alleviate the inner chill and ache that for some accompany the winter season. Some of these oils include cinnamon, juniper, ginger, black pepper, peppermint, tea tree and rosemary. (Juniper is a great diuretic in its own right and works to reduce edema and stagnation of lymph). Our winter blend contains Yukon sourced Juniper Berries infused in our oil mixed with a warming synergistic blend of essential oils. Great rubbed in to the skin or added to a bath by the cap full.
